If that's your budget, spend less on the guitar, and more on the amp.....like near invert the prices.
Maybe something like $200 on the guitar - $400 on the amp. Your tone will be far better off.
Shop around for a used lunchbox amp, like the Vox Night Train, Egnater Tweaker, Orange Tiny Terror, etc.

Agreed.  You will be very disappointed with the Line6.  I have the Vox Night Train and it is a wonderful little amp.  Great tones, good versatility, although the Egnator Tweaker has even more options.

Agreed as well. The amp is 90% of your tone.

bad guitar with good amp = good sound

Good guitar with bad amp = bad sound

Go out there and try some stuff. We can't tell you what you'll like  Wink

Plus most people end up getting multiple guitars. I mean I have gone thru a few amps but you can only buy what you can afford at a given time. But now my collection include three electric guitars and one tube amp. The amp was more than any of my guitars and I have decent axes and my sound is right where I want it. Now I just gotta get that whole playing thing down. Lol

I played a Vox night train, and I agree, its beautiful. You wont even need an OD, since it has a GREAT OD sound in itself.

And A decent squier strat and your money has been well spent.

Where are you? Too high $$ for a Dot. Get 'em new out the door for $325 here in Dallas.

You can have the nicest guitar around, and it will only sound as good as the amplifier. Similar to cameras lenses.
