So, is there some easy-to-follow guide or method to placement when acoustically treating a room? Like, I don't know where to put amps, drums, mics, recording equipment, etc.

Got some ridgid fiberglass panels?  If not it's a crapshoot, and if so, it's a crapshoot.  You just haveta play with the room.  The right mic and the right mic placement will cover a lotta sins.

You can autotune the six o'clock news to make music, that doesn't make your local weatherman a musician.

Panels like these http://www.gikacoustics.com/
Bass traps in the corners are a good place to start.

Well, I have a good idea of what I need, I just don't know where to put everything.  I've seen plenty of articles about placement, I just don't really understand them.
