Yes. I think the Valvetronix series are good, affordable solid state amps. They sound nice and, like you said, have lots of built in effects.

not too much of a fan, they sound sterile and thin to me, check out a roland cube. Better piece of gear IMO.

i think the rolands actualy sound more sterile than the vox but the vox amps are [in my opinion] the best solid state amps on the market. i have had a few of different sizes (15, 50 and 100 watt) and i liked them for the most part but they are a little thin in the tone for actual gigging. they just dont shine in the mix. if you are just begining go for the vox or roland depending on which you like the sound of best. if you are looking for an amp to play with a band and actualy perform then the 50 watt vox will do but i would realy suggest investing in a 15-30 watt tube amp and some effects to use with it.
just suggestions:
Amp:

this has a good reverb and decent overdriven distortion

also look through the Amp FAQ in the sticky section in this room. it is very in depth and i suggest you realy read and not just skim.

i bought the ad50 vt about 2 years ago, and i love it. i run my strat through a boss me-50, and the sound is great. i have thought about trying different amps, but the more i play my vox, the happier i am

Read up on them by Googling stuff like," Valvetronic amp sucks" "Valvetronic amp (un)reliable" "Valvetronic amp awesome" "Valvetronic amp gigging" etc.
