I'm sitting here trying to record some stuff with my new resonator, but my amp is giving off the most annoying buzz.  It's done this for a while but I have it up really loud and it's very noticeable.  I think it has something to do with the fact that there are 4 electrical outlets around where it is plugged into the wall, but I'm not sure on that.  Is there a device that will eliminate buzz?

Second this morning and last night when I was playing my Night Train randomly lost about half of its volume.  It comes back, but fades every now and then.  Could the tubes be giving out?

I need to figure both of these problems out quickly as I have a small gig (with and for a friend) in two weeks.

Thanks!

You should get a voltmeter and see how much AC voltage you have coming in on your outlets. Its worth taking a look to make sure its at a proper level. If its not, it could affect the way your gear works. I knew a guy who burned through 2 refrigerators because the voltage coming into his house was too low and it cooked the compressors in the fridges.

You might try taking your gear to another location and plugging up for awhile to see if the problem persists. If not then you're probably looking at a location issue rather than a gear issue.

... And if you like your gear you should find out whats happening asap. Your stuff is designed to run at a certain voltage range and if you're running it at some other value, be it on purpose or not, then all bets are off as to what might happen to your stuff.  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the advice.  I'll try moving it to another room for a while and try that.

When I unplug the input cable from the amp the humming stops completely.  I then tried having the input cable in, but removing it from the end of my pedal chain.  The humming continued.  Could it be something as simple as a bad cable?

sounds like it could be that simple. it couls also be a grounding issue in the guitar. i have had a re-occuring issue like this with my jazz bass the ground gets weak and the signal gets dull and humms louder than the instrument plays and then i can bump it around a bit and it goes and then i have to tighten up the jack later.

Yep sure enough.  The cable running from my chain to the amp is screwed up.  I replaced it with another cable and there's no noise except what I want to make.

Thanks for the help everyone. +1s all around.
