Bassoon's are sexy instruments. That is all.
It's a giant bong that makes fart noises. What's so sexy?
Fart noises?
I think it's one of the most beautiful sounding instruments made.

Only one little problem with a bassoon ... they're Free Ken EXPENSIVE !!!  I played one for 3 years in HS, got a scholarship  to play one in college.. when I got there I found out I had to provide my own instrument ... Shocked  Couldn't afford that  (paying my own way) so switched to ART...   The bassoon was an interesting instrument with quite a range , but costing as much as a car was out of my league ... Embarrassed   Still looking for a used one  (cheap) ... nothing yet ...

If I did I'd probably take you up on that offer. Sadly the one my brother used to play also belonged to the school.

Yep, almost every instrument besides guitar* is freakin expensive! Not to say guitars are cheap, but the cheapest new oboe I could find was $1000. That's the cheapest. That's like the wal mart guitars (probably not comparable in quality, but in the price range it's the equivalent).

*and the other rock band instruments - Bass, Drums, Keyboards.

Mandos, Ukes and cheapo Violins (Saw one for 150 Euro((!)) that wasn't actually a POS) too. How much is a good drumkit?

Well, looking at the most expensive kit and cymbal package on Musicians friend, it comes out to $6500. Add hardware, and it could go up to probably ~$8000.
That's with the full Neil Pert sig cymbals http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Sabian-Paragon-Limited-Edition-Cymbal-Pack?sku=713180
Which is way more than the average drummer will want or need. Most could get away with Hi hats, ride, crash, and maybe another crash.

And, I'm not saying $8000 isn't a lot of money, but when a good Violin bow can cost just that and even up to $50,000 (Just a bow!), you realize that you've got it kinda good playing a massively mass-produced instrument. Wink

I sent Wavelength a PM about this since he knows his stuff

As a general rule, you'll be able to get second hand items for about 50% of the original street price. The thing to do is to check out a few online vendors and make a list of the kits in the 700€ range. Don't bother with the sub 400€ kits -- they're rubbish. You'll get good value from sets such as Yamaha Stage Custom, Mapex Horizon, Pearl Vision, Tama Imperialstar, Sonor 1007 Stage. Just make sure you're getting the full hardware package with the kit!

Cymbals are going to sound bearable at best at that price point, so just grab the cheapest hi-hats and a ride cymbal you can get, and save up for professional cymbals later on.

If you come across any kits you're interested in, drop me a message and I'll check it out!

-J

But like most any of my other projects it had to be put aside for a bit.

Not on your list but I think violins are really cool. If you want one just to learn there are some pretty cheap ones on eBay.

Oh, you're looking to buy a kit Q?
I thought you were just asking how much they could be.
Yep, the deals are in the used section. I got a great pair of used hi hats for just above half off. And, they'll last a long time.
But, it sucks being the seller. I've got a bunch of crappy ZXT Titanium cymbals (like a whole set of them). I've been trying to sell the, but people want them for next to nothing.

Are you kidding? They want everything for next to nothing. I tried to sell my amp, guitar and pedal (the extras) for awfully cheap prices and still no bites. Needless to say I pulled the ads, they can suck my extension.  Cool
