White polishing compound...  careful you don't "burn through" the thin finish ...

I was mostly concerned with a chemical reaction between the nitro and "product x". Nothing to worry about there? I have a selection of quality compounds to choose from which I use to maintain the finish of my car (and wife's, and friends, and....  Roll Eyes  ). THere is a heavy scratch remover, a light scratch remover and polish.

I don't have much to lose as far as finish quality...my LP is so beat on that after a night of playing the black nitro finish gets cloudy from where my arm rubs on it...  Shocked

Maybe time for a re-finish with something more durable/sweat proof  ...

Maybe... if it was an Epi and not a 32 year old Custom...

Most polishing compounds arent chemicals. They are just really fine abrasives.

Obviously only hand buff it.

If your worried, you could always put some on an unshown surface (like in the control cavity) and see.

You didn't say it was a Vintage guitar ...  Facepalm

if you plan on selling it , just leave it as it is (road worn)... that's what everybody seems to want today ...  Just polish it up and forget about it...

When you're gone , why not donate it to a worthy cause... guitars were made to play , not ROT!!!  Shocked

If you're keeping it (apparently so) , then why not re-fresh the finish (professionally) .... you'd paint your old classic car eh ?
