I like the simple one p/u, one knob setup but you'd think for that price they'd get gold plated screws for the pickup, to match the rest of the hardware.  How hard would that be?

still, I like that git-box!

hey look--over at warmoth, here's a body for $327 (weird price huh?)

http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseItem.aspx?i=S4316&Body=2&Path=Body

...and a rosewood neck for $272...

http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?i=sn8687&Body=1&Path=Neck
That's six hundred bucks so far...

Yea. One think on Warmoth I found weird was I got an Alder body and it was like 174 bucks then a Maple Neck was over 200. Its a little weird a neck can be more than the body.

It's way harder to make a good neck than it is to make a decent body.

This.

From what I gather, the only really tricky part of making a body is the routing, where as you got fret levelling and all that Jazz.

Necks are harder to manufacture , as the wood has to be dead straight , and then there's the fretwork (grrrr!!!!) and the inlay/side dots ,truss rod, neck profile  (thickness and shape ), tuner holes, finishing ... lots to it ... close tolerances... Tricky!!!
Making a body is Easy , finding the right wood for the body can be time consuming (tapping wood for Tone) , and EXPENSIVE if you want some of that wonder Quilt or highly figured wood ...  A guitar top sized block of  Beauty 5A quilt can easily cost 200-300 USD.. Shocked Then it still has to be split (resawn) and book matched...
Anybody with a Jig saw and a router can make a fine body ... Rawk1  Just takes a little time , planning and a whole lot of sanding ..  Shocked

+1 for necks are harder to make than a body

to make a body all you need is a block of wood, a design and something to cut holes with, all you need to get right is the pick up holes, the neck joint and the bridge, everything else can be pretty much rough cut then sanded down to shape

the nexk is much harder, you need a flat piece of wood, the truss rod hole has to be pretty much 100% perfect for your truss rod, otherwise all sorts of problems can occur when you try to straighten out your neck with it, then you gotta shape the back of the neck to suit (takes easily an hour - hour and a half with a file to get right, and is definitely the hardest process of making the neck) then you've got to shape the fretboard, accurately cut out slots for the frets, then put the frets in, and make sure the neck sits properly in the hole you cut on the body for the neck, as well as line up the holes for the tuners properly (if you're using a tremolo)

so, as you can probably tell, much more time consuming to build a neck than a body... it took me about 3 days (appox 8 hours total working time) with a router and a bandsaw to cut out a complete body and sand it ready for painting, and took about a week of 4 - 5 hour days working on the neck and fret board till it was done properly and also ready for painting, lol

Needs a neck pup to be worth it but I bet that thing is a dream to play.

No way. Guitars with only a bridge pickup are awesome. Although I would add a tone knob.
