So I have a budget of around $200, and I need a practice amp that would sound good for metal. I have a BOSS MT 2 pedal, so would it really matter what kind of amp I have? I have a Squier amp, 18watts I think. Any suggestions of what amp I should buy? I have been looking at the Marshall MG30DFX, I just want some options.

thanks

i checked out the marshall you are speaking of, and the fender gdec, and the roland cube back in july when i was in the market for a new amp. i went for the cube, because to my ear, it sounded the best.  i reccomend trying out as many as you can. everyone's ear is different and you may like one of the others better than i did.  besides, gear shopping is way more fun than watching reviews on youtube  Grin

Another vote for the cube

In that price range, it's very very hard to beat a Roland Cube.

I would chalk one up for the roland as wel But I have to add just because you have the metal pedal it does not mean you will sound metal. That pedal will sound significantly different on every amp and every guitar so don't just expect to sound like a metal master. Also you might want to also concider tube amp, I know this is only for practice but imo distortion pedals sound better on an amp with some tubes.

i totally agree that a tube will sound better in most cases.  the reason i didn't go for one was price. i couldn't find a decent tube amp for the $200 i spent on my cube 30.  especially not with the features it has.
the other reason is, in order to get that sweet tube distortion, you gotta really push the tube and get it hot.
i can't have that kind of volume in my apt.  otherwise, tube is absolutely the way to go.

Thanks guys

I'll look into the VOX amp head some time later on, I don't have a cabinet ftl

the Roland cube 30, I've heard good things about that, I will most likely get that. I found it on Musician's Friend, for $259, but any other sites that would sell it cheaper?

and I live in Canada, so please see if they ship here?

Please listen to one before you buy. If possible bring your gear to test it.

I'll take a look at the shop around here, I don't know how much of selection they have, they may not have it, but won't hurt to check out some other ones too

PLEASE don't just go "omg that has tubes and is in my price range, MUST HAVE IT"

PLAY IT FIRST

If you're fond of the sound you get from the MT-2, I can almost guarantee you'll be unsatisfied with the VOX. But that's just me.

Again, PLAY ONE, WITH your pedal on it.
