First, let me say I *@#&% hate singers. They never want to work on anything, and they never have their own *!@#&% gear.
That being said, one of my friends is a singer, and wants to start jamming. Of course, he doesn't have any PA gear of his own. I need some suggestions on some PA gear I can score on the cheap - not just for him, having PA gear makes me an instant welcome addition to most bands ...
Anyways I was thinking something like this would be just perfect:

Any other ideas?

AK, save up and get a GOOD PA !!! It does make a Huge difference in the quality of the vocals ... and with a better PA , you get to play with better bands ...
I have 3 PAs ... small , medium , and gymnasium ...
Just more stuff to store , maintain ,and move around... My Big stuff has wheels !!!
Think that's bad ... try a female vocalist who owns a mic and a cord , and expects everything else to be provided ...

Yeah, that PA might be okay for a tiny coffee shop's open mic night...but
you
are going to need better quality and more power.

Hey , what about the Horn section , those clowns usually don't even own a mic. and NEVER lift a finger to help with setup or takedown ...
More PA channels, stands , mics and cords ... and a mop for later ... aargh !!!! ...
Could be worse than just the odd vocalist ... Just so you know Dude!!!

well let me make plain that I'm not planning on investing in PA gear for live gigs - that's the bar's problem. (And yes I know the "bars never have PA" meme, I'm just saying). I just want something that will get a vocalist up over a drummer loud enough to compete with 50-100 tube-watts of distorted guitar, for jamming at home. Dude is currently unemployed, so this has to come out of my bank (any PA gear bought for live use will be communal); and since I know nothing about vocals, I have no idea what to buy, or where to get it from.
And yeah I know it could be worse than the odd vocalist (I've had to deal with "the guitarist without an amp", and I have
been
"the bassist without an amp" before), but still.

AK, in the old days , the mic went right into the amp with the guitar ...
Got a spare amp lying around
Put it up on a chair or box ... Instant PA ... not the best ,but "above the drummer" ... small inline impedance matching transformers /XLR> 1/4" plug adapters are available for cheap...
Now for a cheap rig , you could look around for a small PA head , 4 channels , commonly called a "mixing amp" for some reason ... I have two , a Peavey and a Crate ,both 90 watts , both bought used for less than $100.00 USD.. That into some big used stereo speakers( properly rated) would work too ... all readily available and CHEAP !!!
