SOG, It IS relatively EASY to build your own amp and have GOOD Tone, and not break the bank  ...  I’ve mentioned this more than once here...  You can see the less than handful of parts ...  Not much to it ...  Lips Sealed

If you can change pickups and wire volume controls , then you have the skill to make an amp ...  just need a little info/directions , that’s all ...

Ah , the life of Musicians ...  poor !!   Facepalm   Here’s my trick ... I keep a jar by the dresser  for all my spare change , after several months I have enough to build an amp ...  True !!  Those few coins every day really add up ...  Built many amps (and pedals) financed by spare change ...  Wink  It’s the new economy for we 99% ...

GPW... You are an inspiration to us all via your guitar and amp building mastery.  Bow

Considering the sound I hear coming from your hand-built guitar plugged into your hand-built amp in that video, we are truly not worthy.  Cool

I've been wanting to build an amp for awhile and have even bought some of the parts necessary. I was gonna do a sub-mini version but... I think i'd be more down for the real-tube $75 deal. Is there any definitive build-guide for that amp? I'm looking for something with a parts list, layout, schematic, etc. As close to 'paint-by-numbers' as possible for my first tube amp build. I build a decent pedal but tube amps are new territory to me and since they're dangerous I want to start slow.

Any variations to that setup as well? A tone control or Baxandall tone stack perhaps? Does it have a standby switch? What kind of speaker/cab setup are you using there?

Lots of questions!

SW, Thanks !!!!   There’s a whole thread devoted to it at WWW.Wattkins.com   (you do have to register)   The Savage Croaker and the Thrifty Croaker (12AX7 version) are in the Tone per Buck Club section ...  and I just finished a thread on how to build one in the old school true  Point to Point style (no boards as you see here )  ...  part by part...  in the General Amp Building section ...  I’ll be there to help ... along with a lot of other helpful people ...  Save your change , CU there ...   Cheesy

Warning:    It CAN become Addictive !!!     I’m on amp #17 right now , and thinking of yet another ...  Shocked Facepalm  Not to mention the dozen or so pedals ...  Lips Sealed

Here’s a couple pics of what the real Model 8’s look like ...

 I don’t think he’s established a price yet ...   He’s waiting on his website rebuild ...

I didn't go past the first page. Golf course, gun club, railroad, and odor control is all I found.
