As long as your guitar is set to dive only (like EVH's) and your strings are stretched out then they work perfectly.

It's a mechanical device that attaches to a floyd rose by the low E string saddle.  It allows you to instantly drop the low E to a low D, thus sending you into drop D tuning.  It can then sharp the string back to E whenever you want.  It's convenient for players who have a locked nut and can't change the tuning of the guitar easily. 

If the bridge is set-to-float then it won't work because dropping the low string will sharp all of the other strings.
