"The question asker"

« on: January 23, 2012, 11:34:29 PM »

I've had my buddies Peavey Valveking 212 at my house for several weeks. I really like it, but it's way too loud for the bedroom. He really wanted to get rid of it so I offered him $200 bucks. He accepted and if I go through with it then I'll be paying him tomorrow. I really think I can turn around and do a straight trade at a music store I go to for a Blackstar HT-5 (the amp I really want) Which would save me $150 bucks. One half of me says go for it because it's such a good deal. The other half says don't spend $200 on something you don't want.. Any suggestions?

How much longer til Blackstar amps have saturated the market to the point that they sell for $100?

Everybody on the internet seems to have one or want one but I have yet to see one on a stage here in town--ever.

Music stores are going to give you peanuts for the Peavey, you are better off selling it on your own. Since you have it, try to sell it to the store! Just to check how much they give you. Be prepared for a disappointment.

Sorry , I never could understand the bedroom amp thing ...  Whatever amp you have works in the bedroom , just turn it Down !!!  (The Volume knob)   Works every time !!!   If you want Dirt (distortion) use a pedal .... So Simple ...  Why all the fuss and need to buy another amp ... Huh  Is this just another marketing ploy to sell tiny amps ...  Huh  I’ve been playing guitar since I was 14 , that’s 48 years now and I’ve never felt the need for a “bedroom” amp ...  Facepalm
And yes  music stores won’t give you much for anything!!!   ...   I was in GC one day talking to their “tech” , a guy came in with a Strat  (nice one too ... EC )   They gave him 200 bucks for it , and within 20 minutes ,they  re sold it for 600 bucks ...  That’s how Music stores make their Money ...  Not very good for the seller eh Huh  Doh

Well I have a music store I sell to that gives really fair prices. I bet I could get 350 for the amp there. But I'll probably keep the amp and just buy a tube screamer. The distortion just doesn't quite get there on the amp, and even if I end up selling the amp I've been wanting a tube screamer lately anyways. The amp also comes with a hardshell case with rollers so that's a plus!

Some amps go from zero to too loud for a bedroom with not much in between.  Angry

Well, there’s always the guitars Volume control too ...  and if you use a dirt pedal , there’s a level control on that too ...  Huh
